Q: How do I get a library card?
A: Wisconsin residents who present a valid ID with proof of current residential address may have a library card free of charge. Cards are issued for one year and renewed annually. There is no fee for renewal. If your card becomes lost or stolen, please notify the library immediately; a replacement card can be issued for $1.00.
Children may receive their own library card at the age of 6 years, or upon entering kindergarten, whichever comes first. Students under 16 years of age will need a parent or guardian to sign a statement of responsibility.
Q: May I check materials out if I don't have my card with me?
A: It is best (and fastest!) to use your card. With the ever-growing number of patrons in the MORE system, it is also the safest way to prevent misuse of your account. If your card is lost or stolen, we will be happy to issue you a replacement card. If you are unable to present your card at check-out, we will require photo identification with your current address.
Q: May I use my card at other public libraries?
A: With your MORE library card, you may check out materials at any of the 35+ participating MORE libraries (for a complete list, click here).
Q: May I return my materials to other libraries?
A: Yes, materials may be returned to any of the 35+ participating MORE libraries (for a complete list, click here).
Q: How long may I keep my materials?
A: Books, audio books, and music cassettes and CDs may be checked out for three weeks. Magazines, videos (VHS and DVD), and computer software may be checked out for one week.
Q: May I renew an item I have checked out?
A: Items may be renewed twice in sequence, unless the item is on hold for another patron. Renewals may be made online through the MORE website, in person, by phoning the automated renewal line at 1-866-MY-RENEW, or by calling the library during normal business hours.
Q: Can I use my computer at home to check the library's online catalog?
A: Yes! You can access the online catalog at www.more.lib.wi.us from any computer with an internet connection.
Q: How can I get on a waiting list for a book or other library materials that are checked out?
A: Card holders may place a "hold" or "reserve" on at item that is already checked out by another patron. Holds can be placed through the online catalog, by calling the library during normal business hours, or in person.
You will receive an automated notice by email or telephone when your item is available to pick-up at the library of your choice. An item that is not picked up within five days will go to the next person on the waiting list.
Q: If the library doesn't have what I need, can you get it for me from another library?
A: If we are unable to locate the item you need within the MORE system, we may be able to borrow it from another library in the state -- or even from another part of the country.
Q: Does the library have computers available for the public to use?
A: Yes! The library has six public access computers, including two with special large-key keyboards and one with additional features for persons with limited mobility and sight and hearing-related challenges. These computers may be used free of charge for internet access and word processing activities. We also have a designated computer without internet access which may be used by children to play any of the educational software titles we have at the library. Printers are available for public use as well, for a fee of ten cents per printed page.
Q: Do you have any meeting rooms for community organizations to use for seminars, workshops or meetings?
A: The library has a small room that may be used as a place for quiet studying or for small group meetings. The room will seat six adults comfortably. Larger community groups may wish to contact the Village of Baldwin to reserve a meeting room in the Municipal Building (the same building where the library is housed).
Q: Are there photocopiers I can use when I visit the library?
A: Yes, black and white copies can be made at a self-serve copier inside the library for ten cents per page. Color copies can be made by front desk staff for one dollar per page.
Q: Can I type a letter, a report, or my resume at the library?
A: Letters, reports and resumes can be created on any of our public access computers with Microsoft Word, and can be printed out using the library's printers for ten cents per page. There is also a typewriter available for patron use -- please ask at the front desk for assistance.
Q: Do you have tax forms?
A: Yes, we keep federal and state (Wisconsin and Minnesota) tax forms in supply during tax preparation season. We also keep master copies of forms which you can photocopy for ten cents per page.
